Business

PN Gadgil Jewellers, started in 1832 , by Ganesh Narayan Gadgil in Sangli, Maharashtra, is one of the medium range players in gold jewellery industry. The company is currently headed by Saurabh Gadgil. PN Gadgil is 4th largest player in jewellery industry. The company operates 78 stores, 77 in India, 1 in US with revenues of Rs 10470cr in FY26.

Product segments

The company's vast repository consists of 42,819 SKUs spanning gold, silver, diamond, and platinum jewellery. Acknowledging the structural consumer shift toward everyday wear and lifestyle premiumization, PNGJL executed a strategic rebranding of its "LiteStyle" segment to "YOOU" in August 2026. The YOOU brand focuses exclusively on lightweight, design-led 9kt, 14kt, 18kt, and 22kt diamond jewellery explicitly targeting millennial, Gen Z, and modern professional female consumers. This segment inherently operates on substantially higher gross margins than traditional gold bullion. The strategic emphasis on the YOOU brand directly drove the company's overall retail stud ratio (the proportion of studded jewellery to total sales) to 9.9% in FY26, with subsequent improvements reaching 11.8% in Q2 FY27.

Geography

PN Gadgil has total of 78 stores, with 68 stores in Maharashtra.Within Maharashtra, the urban centers of Mumbai and Pune are the primary revenue engines, collectively accounting for 43 stores. In pursuit of geographical diversification, the company has recently established an emerging presence in Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. So there is heavy single state concentration like Senco gold which has West Bengal concentration.

Store types
The company operates 57 COCO( company owned company operated) stores and 21 FOCO( franchisee owned company operated) stores. COCO outlets are highly capital-intensive, requiring an average fit-out capital expenditure of approximately ₹2.5 crore per legacy store. 83% stores are legacy stores of large format averaging 3500 sq ft.

Industry overview

Indian households demonstrate a profound cultural affinity for precious metals, allocating an estimated 7.6% to 8.0% of their total private retail consumption expenditure directly to gold. Driven by this sustained demand, India officially surpassed China in 2024 to become the world's largest consumer of gold jewellery, with aggregate domestic consumption reaching 710 tonnes in FY25.

Industry size

The total size of the Indian jewellery industry was valued at approximately ₹7.31 lakh crore in FY25, and is projected to compound at a robust CAGR of 15.3% through the end of the current decade.

The market composition is heavily weighted toward adornment, with gold jewellery accounting for roughly 66% of the total market ,while gold bars and coins for pure investment constitute the remaining 34%. India has ~1,43,500+ BIS-registered gold jewellery retail stores. India is the world's second largest consumer of gold jewellery. The organized sector's market share expanded from 32% in 2020 to an estimated 39% in FY25, and is projected to capture between 45% and 50% of the total market by 2030

Growth drivers

1.Growing demand driven by strong cultural affinity towards jewellery
2.Rising jewellery consumption supported by increasing purchasing power & urbanization
3.Expanding retail network catering to growing jewellery demand across markets 4.Demographic Evolution and Premiumization: Rising per capita urban income, coupled with increasing female workforce participation, has fundamentally shifted consumer preferences
5.Tax Compliance and Supply Chain Transparency: Stricter enforcement of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) has severely curtailed illicit bullion trading. This forces the entire value chain into the formal economy.

Organized players control 39% of jewellery industry, with leading players being Titan ( revenue 90000cr), Kalyan Jewellers( rev 35000cr), Lalithaa Jewellers( rev 25000cr), Senco gold ( rev 8500cr), Thangamayil ( rev 8500cr)

Points to consider

61% of industry is still unorganized, and the projected industry growth of 15% slates very important tailwinds in the industry.

Margins of PN Gadgil is much lower than Titan, leaving scope of margin expansion which also depends on store COCO/ FOCO mix.

Revenue/ store and revenue/ sqft is way higher than peers.

Heavy presence in Maharashtra- 68 stores with Pune and Mumbai comprising 43 stores, which possibly accounts for high revenue/ sq ft and revenue/ store.

Valuation

PN Gadgil Jewellers is valued at P/E of 19.5 ( TTM basis).
Comparable peers Titan P/E at 68, Kalyan jewellers 40, Lalithaa jewellers 21, Thangamayil 39.
